WardMaps.com Can Save Your Maps

We preserve rare and fragile maps, atlases and wall maps for posterity in the form of a digital archive. We can archive individual maps or entire collections of thousands of maps.

Working with historical societies, municipalities, institutions and private collectors, WardMaps.com has developed a process to safely digitize and preserve rare maps, large and small. We utilize large format scanners for small and medium sized maps that are in good condition. We utilize high-resolution digital photography for oversize maps, wall maps, maps bound in atlases as well as maps that are too fragile for the scanner.

Using the scanner or the camera, we create high resolution digital files that capture all the original color and nuances of the original map. Our digitalization process is of such high resolution, that even the texture of the paper the map was originally printed on is captured. We save digitized maps in file formats that are the non-compressed. This avoids the loss of information often suffered by compressed file formats. The digital files we create can be viewed again and again without exposing the original maps to the repeated and often damaging touch of human hands.

Once a map is in a digital form, formatting it for viewing on the internet as well as printing almost identical facsimiles is easily facilitated. Of course WardMaps.com can provide museum quality archival printing of maps from any digital archive we create.

We at WardMaps.com have personally overseen the digital archiving of thousands of maps large and small. We will be happy to talk with you about your maps, how to digitize them. We prepare free estimates.

Contact us at info@wardmaps.com to discuss your archiving project.
